"Riehle Playing Field"

The University of Notre Dame has dedicated an intramural field
as Riehle Playing Field in honor of Rev. James Riehle, C.S.C.
Fr. Riehle is the longtime chaplain for the Irish athletic
teams as well as executive director of the National Monogram
Club. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1949, was ordained a
priest in 1964 and returned to Notre Dame in 1966 as rector of
Sorin Hall. Fr. Riehle was also dean of students from 1967 to
1973 before serving as the rector of Pangborn Hall until 1985.
Riehle Field was formally dedicated during the
weekend of June 7, 2001. The field is adjacent to
the Stepan Center on the University of Notre Dame campus.
